A sigmoidoscopy is a procedure where a doctor examines the inside lining of your lower large bowel for growths or diseases using a sigmoidoscope - a short, flexible tube with a camera and light attached. The images are displayed on a video screen. The procedure may or may not require sedation. Discomfort is usually brief.

An enteroscopy is a procedure where a doctor uses an endoscope to examine your food pipe, stomach and small bowel for abnormalities like inflammation or bleeding. An endoscope is a flexible tube with a small camera and light that allows the doctor to see inside your gut on a video screen. The doctor can also use the endoscope to remove small growths, take biopsies or aspirate fluid samples. You may experience some pressure or bloating during the procedure, but it should go away quickly.

An upper GI endoscopy is a procedure that uses a flexible tube with a camera and light to examine the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum. During the procedure, small tissue samples (biopsies) can be taken, polyps can be removed, narrow areas can be dilated, and bleeding can be stopped. It is commonly used to investigate symptoms like tummy pain, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, weight loss, difficulty swallowing, or abnormal blood tests or scans.

ENDOSCOPY

A colonoscopy is a procedure that uses a flexible tube with a camera and light to examine the large bowel, including the rectum and colon, and sometimes the last part of the small bowel. It can also be used to take tissue samples (biopsies), remove polyps, dilate narrow areas, and stop bleeding
